I would like to welcome you and your child to the GATE and TAGS program! My name is Samantha Pruett and this will be my thirteenth year teaching in CCSD. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade here at Diskin for eight years before moving on to become a GATE specialist. This will be my sixth year as a GATE Specialist, and I am very excited to be at Diskin.
I was born and raised in Northeastern Nevada, but have lived in Las Vegas for 27 years. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and I completed my Masters in Elementary Education from Sierra Nevada College in August 2008, and continued taking classes to obtain my Gifted and Talented Education endorsement from Southern Utah University in June 2014.
My hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, playing board games, watching and attending baseball games especially my favorite team the St. Louis Cardinals, and going to Disneyland.
This is going to be an exciting and interesting year. I am looking forward to the year ahead of us and the many fun and exciting things we will learn together. Learning should be a fun and positive experience that shapes students' knowledge and character for the rest of their lives. This will be a rewarding year with lasting friendships and a rich learning experience!
In the classroom I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, respect, and fun. We will work hard together to build a sense of community and teamwork. Great things can happen when we all work together!!
